Celebrating Women’s History Month

March is Women’s History Month, a time to celebrate the achievements, resilience, and contributions of women throughout history and in our communities. It’s also an opportunity to reflect on the unique challenges women continue to face and take action to support them.

Honoring the women around us goes beyond recognition—it requires real, tangible support. Whether in our families, workplaces, or neighborhoods, we can each play a role in uplifting all the women who shape our lives.

Ways to Support Women in Your Community

1. Start Conversations About Women’s Issues

One of the simplest yet most impactful ways to support women is to listen. Talk to the women in your community—your mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, and wives—about the specific challenges they face in society and culture.

  • What specific issues are they experiencing in their careers, education, or daily lives?
  • How can you support them emotionally, financially, or through advocacy?
  • Are there books you could recommend for people to read to help broaden perspectives?

By understanding their experiences, you can help drive meaningful change.

2. Support Young Women in Need

Many young women, especially those in the foster care system or facing economic hardships, struggle with access to education, stable housing, and essential resources. Here’s how you can help:

  • Volunteer or mentor young women who need guidance and encouragement.
  • Donate to organizations that support foster youth and at-risk young women.
  • Advocate for policies that provide better opportunities for disadvantaged girls.
  • Help disadvantaged girls get into Girl Scouts to learn leadership and life skills.

3. Donate Personal Care Items to Charities

For many women in shelters or struggling with poverty, access to basic hygiene products is a major challenge. Consider donating essential toiletries like:

  • Feminine hygiene products (pads, tampons, menstrual cups)
  • Shampoo, soap, and deodorant
  • Toothpaste and toothbrushes

Local women’s shelters and community centers often accept these donations and distribute them to those in need.

4. Support Female-Led Businesses and Entrepreneurs

Many Female entrepreneurs face unique obstacles as they navigate the world of Business. Talking with women in the Entrepreneurial space, you help to broaden your own perspectives. Here are ways to support:

  • Shop at women-owned businesses in your community.
  • Speak with the local female leaders to get their perspective on the unique challenges they face.
  • Sponsor disadvantaged young women to go into the trades/vocations, as a viable pathway towards future leadership success.

Even small actions—like buying from a woman-owned café or recommending a female artist—can make a big difference.

5. Champion Women in the Arts, Sports and Charities

Female artists, musicians, writers, athletes and nonprofit leaders bring valuable perspectives to society. Here’s how you can support them:

  • Attend exhibits, concerts, and events featuring female artists.
  • Donate to charities led by women.
  • Read books by Women to gain their perspective.

Making a Lasting Impact

Women’s History Month is a time to reflect and broaden your perspective about the space women take up in the world; and honoring and supporting their achievements and efforts. Whether through small daily actions or larger commitments, we all have a role to play in honoring, uplifting, and supporting the women in our lives and communities.
